Do you want to spend the money to pay a designer to design a website for you or do you want to spend the time to learn how to design a website on one of these website platforms? The choice is yours. Regardless, your small business needs a website. So, if you have the money perhaps you pay a designer, and if you have the time, you can learn how to build your website yourself.
There are many factors to consider when building a website. Below we’ll list some important factors to consider if you are designing a new website for your small business.
First things first, a website needs a modern design relative to the industry your small business is in. If you have an old website that hasn’t been updated for a few years, it may be time to update.
Every website needs pictures, and it needs people of actual people from your business. Stay away from stock photos if you can. Google likes unique content and stock photos are not unique. Authenticity is a real factor that Google considers when it comes to Google rankings.
You should include pictures of your warehouse, your team members, and the products you use. When potential customers are calling your business, they expect to talk to real people. So why shouldn’t your business include images of real people too?
Add videos when you can. A video will increase trust among your business and your website visitors. Record a video of your team at work or on the job, and use your smartphone if you have to. You don’t need a professional camera anymore to create a solid video.

Create your listing and then claim your listing!
Your profile should look like this once you’re done.
After you’ve created and claimed your Google My Business profile for your business you need to make sure your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) information is correct.
You can create other business listings through business directories to increase the consistency of your NAP for Google. The more the better, but make sure it’s consistent.
These listings help improve your chance of your business appearing in the Google Map Packs. They look like this.
Moving on, now that you’ve created your GMB profile, you need to include your services and have descriptions for each. Remember, we’re trying to beat out your competition, so you need to do what they won’t.
Next, you can add any blog posts that you’ve created. If you don’t have any write some or hire a writer to do it for you.
Next, you need to include photos. These can be of your business, team members, etc. Get creative with them. GMB allows up to 25 photos so take advantage.
You can also include videos. Now, I know a lot of small businesses typically don’t have videos of their business. What you can do is create of video of you going through your business’s testimonials in a slideshow fashion. This will work perfect.
Lastly, you are going to want to turn on the chat feature. GMB allows any chats from your profile to be directed to an SMS number so you can respond right from your phone. This is a great way to communicate with potential customers.
When it comes to Google My Business, a good rule of thumb to follow is if there is a place to fill out information on your business, fill it out.
